'Read more' for the answers of Andy from Vetoes to the pay-a-day questionaire.
Here the answers of VETEOS to the general questionaire:
Does your commission fee represents your idea, what an artist should earn per day?
No, artists deserve to earn more for their work - the fee is what I could reasonably afford.
Would you find it weird to not get a free ticket to the performance of the piece, you payed for?
No, the performance is a separate event to the writing of the piece.
Did you ever pay for an artwork, beside paying for entrance tickets? Did you ever commission a work of art?
No, this is the first time I have been involved in something like this.
Did you check my personal blog/website before you decided paying me a day of work? And did the work you saw there have an influence on your decision?
Yes - I found the concept of the piece interesting and also wanted to contribute to the valuable research into people's attitude towards artists that the project will provide
Do you expect me to spent the entire day working? Should my working time be related to the fee? Would you suggest a logical formula for this?
There is no logical way to link fees with working time on a per hour basis - as with all art, the quality and quantity of what is produced can vary from day to day according to the artist's mood. Being in the right frame of mind is essential to creating innovative and interesting art. The artist should aim to spend as much time as is needed to be satisfied with their own work while at the same time aiming to complete the entire piece over a period of time during which they can reasonably support themselves using the TOTAL commission fee (and any other sources of income).
Do you have a message coming with your contribution? Or a special question? Which one?
In general:
Would you pay only for good art?I would pay for any sort of art I think I might find interesting or enjoyable.
Who should pay for art? (society, artists themselves, other artists, sponsors, the actual audience, ...)
A combination of sponsors and audience. In order to produce art in the first place to attract an audience, an because it often takes a long time to become well established in any creative career, the artists must have some sort of funding. While it is possible to finance oneself by working at the same time as writing, having sponsorship allows artists to dedicate more time to creating.
Social Piece:
Do you mind, if the piece doesn't include music?
I would hope the piece is somehow music or sound based, as I enjoy this artform most, though this is personal taste.
Would you mind being actively integrated in the performance:
- as a member of the audience?
No, I find audience integration in pieces interesting and entertaining.
- as a sponsor?
No, please feel free to use my name or band name (Vetoes) in the piece - if you would like to sample any of our music for sound based elements of the piece, please get in touch, we're happy for you to use it!
Will you be there at the performance (10 March 2010 in Bergen)?
Possibly - I hope to be there but have not yet booked travel and might not be able to get time off work. I hope to be there!
Should Social Piece be related to Pay A Day? Should it reflect the sponsorship, the single fees and the raised questions and their answers?
Yes, the issues raised by the piece are very important to artists - it should be important that these are expressed by the piece.
Do you have a wish/concern for Social Piece?
Please have fun creating it!
